Opening Song
In Need of a Savior

Opening Prayer
O Emmanuel,
may this wreath and its light remind us
that it is Jesus who came to fulfill all our desires.
Bless this wreath and all who gather around it
as we prepare our hearts to celebrate Christmas.
Come, Lord Jesus, bring HOPE, PEACE, JOY, and LOVE to our world.

Scripture Reading
A Reading from the Book of Saint Luke.
Jesus said to his disciples:
“There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars,
and on earth nations will be in dismay,
perplexed by the roaring of the sea and the waves.
“There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars,
and on earth nations will be in dismay,
perplexed by the roaring of the sea and the waves.
People will die of fright
in anticipation of what is coming upon the world,
for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
in anticipation of what is coming upon the world,
for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
And then they will see the Son of Man
coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
But when these signs begin to happen,
stand erect and raise your heads
because your redemption is at hand.”
stand erect and raise your heads
because your redemption is at hand.”
(Luke 21:25-28)
The Gospel of the Lord.
Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.
Reflection
As we enter into the first week of Advent, we focus on the Hope we have in Christ’s coming. As Jesus’ birth draws closer our Hope can intensify as well. Looking around during the Advent Season we will most likely see many signs of Christ that are often taken for granted. This Advent let us be intentional in comprehending how those signs reveal our Lord.

Questions to Contemplate
What are some of the visible signs that it is Christmas time?
Have we done anything in our homes to show forth Christ’s coming?
How are we preparing for Christ’s arrival in this season of our lives?
Are we ready to receive Christ’s presence in all parts of our life?
What can we say or do to help others receive Christ in their lives?
Closing Prayer
Jesus, as we look around, we see so many visible signs of Your coming. There are decorations, Christmas trees, lights, and even parades. Each of these signs remind us of Your presence in our world. This Advent, help us to create signs and engage in actions that will show forth Your love and presence that others might be filled with Hope.
